Also provided is support for the ASAP Application Extension which allows monitoring of abstract application domains and their operational status. ** The ASAP Client includes a Graphical User Interface that displays availability and performance info for both Application and System objects. Using ASAP, you can view and analyze either real-time or historical network-wide views of Application, Cpu, Disk, Expand, Node, Process, and System entities. Views can encompass all of your Tandem nodes, reflect a selected set of nodes, or focus on a single node, entity, or object. The ASAP Client retrieves, analyzes, and displays selected statistics from the ASAP Server. The Server includes an optional API Extension that allows indepth monitoring of customer application stats. ** The ASAP Client can also forward object statistics and state information to enterprise management frameworks that are supported by the Compaq Open Enterprise Management Gateway. The OEM gateway integrates object info between the ASAP Client, the Object Integration Layer (OIL), and if present, enterprise management frameworks. To enable the OEM Gateway, select the "Open Enterprise Management" check box on the ASAP OEM property sheet. This causes ASAP objects, statistics, and states to be reported to the OEM Gateway. Enabling the OEM also adds the popup menu items: Alerts, Max Alerts, and Performance to the OEM and OIL so that you can view detailed object info simply by clicking an object. To display performance utilization icons, select the "Show Utilization in OEM" check box on the ASAP OEM property sheet. Feature History: ** [0.9.970] During Startup the ASAP Client performs internationalization checks. This includes analyzing Regional Settings of your PC to determine whether they are compatible with NonStop Server settings. If the settings are not compatible, ASAP displays the following dialog box: "Your Workstation Regional Settings are incompatible with ASAP Server. It is recommended that you change workstation Regional Settings to be compatible with the Server's usage of period and comma. DO YOU WANT TO THE CLIENT TO CHANGE REGIONAL SETTINGS? YES => Client will Change your regional settings. NO => Client will continue, but with the wrong settings. CANCEL => Stop Client so you can change Regional Settings using the windows Control Panel." ** [0.9.960] A new "Minimum State" dialog allows you to specify the minimum state of objects displayed in ASAP Browse and Graph windows. Minimum State filtering allows you to display objects that are only in exception state, and thus can reduce the total number of objects displayed in graphs and grids. ** [0.9.960] A new "Show Wall" check box has been added to the Graph Tab of the ASAP Properties window. This option allows you to control whether a wall is displayed around graphs for contrast purposes. ** [0.9.960] A new "Time Sync" option allows you to synchronize the date and time between your workstation and NonStop Server session. ** [0.9.935] Basic Object State Reporting is a standard feature of the ASAP product. Two attributes, and combine to define the operational status of Cpu, Disk, and Expand objects. The term "Status" refers to the UP, DOWN, or WARNING state of an object with respect to its operational state. Within ASAP, all statistical property attributes for an object can have a state associated with them. However, the Operational STATUS of an object refers directly to the object's operational status. For example, the operational status indicates whether an object is UP or DOWN. With ASAP, an object property such as BUSY, can have thresholds that when exceeded imply the object is not functioning properly. This type of property provides a performance indication of an object's status. The new Cpu, Disk, Expand STATUS attributes contain new textual descriptions of the operational status of these objects. For example "-MB D" indicates the backup path to a mirrored volume is down. A new OP attribute provides a direct state indicator of Cpu, Disk, and Expand object Operational States. The OP attribute value is the actual OEM state representing the operational status of the object. The value of the OP attribute is compatible with the Compaq Open Enterprise Management (OEM) Gateway, for example: 2 means Up, 6 means Warning, 8 means Down. The new ASAP STATUS and OP attributes are defaulted ON for Cpu, Disk, and Expand. Note, if you had an older version of the ASAP Client on your workstation, you will be prompted to first clear your ASAP registry settings, so that your new settings will be correctly defaulted. ** [0.9.935] ASAP now checks the Registry Version to avoid incompatibilites with old ASAP registry settings, and displays a dialogue box advising users of this condition, and what to do. ** [0.9.935] ASAP client now checks the host version of the ASAP server for compatibility, and displays a message advising of incompatibilities. ** [0.9.935] ASAP version 0.9.934 and later is incompatible with all prior EAP versions of the product. This new version of the ASAP client requires installation of ASAP Server T0402V01.01 or later. To be clear, old versions of the ASAP Client/Server are incompatible with the new ASAP Client/Server. ** [0.9.935] A CLEAR REGISTRY button has been added to the General Tab of the ASAP Properties window. If you click this button, an advisory message is displayed, and by clicking YES, Registry settings for the ASAP subsystem are cleared. ** [0.9.935] A "Show Related Objectives" menuitem has been added to graph and grid popup menus in the Browse Window. This option displays the current Application Objective settings for the selected domain. ** [0.9.935] IO Flow Control can be enabled for ASAP clients accessing a server by adding the following command to the ASAPCONF file: SET IOCONTROL 64 The feature can also be enabled on a per ASAP client basis via the SSG Advanced Dialog box. You access this dialog via the Advanced button on the SSG TAB of the ASAP Properties Windows. ** [0.9.934] A new SSG Advanced option has been added, "Exit CI on Client Shutdown". If this option is checked, whenever the ASAP Client is shutdown, the server CI is also shutdown. If you want the server CI to continue running between ASAP client sessions, do not check this check box. It is recommended that you always check this check box, because it assures that the client always cleans up on shutdown, and on startup, creates a fresh copy of its associated ASAP server on the host. ** [0.9.934] Object States can now be suppressed for selected objects. To select a single object, click the row associated with the object in either the graph or data grid area of the Browse window. To select a range of objects, click and drag the range of rows in the data grid; the range will highlight. Once you've selected the objects for state suppression, click the Suppress States toolbar button. You can also right mouse the selected objects, or select Suppress States from the View menu. The State Suppression dialog box displays. Once the State Suppression Dialogue box appears you can Add, Remove, Clear, and Save objects from the "Suppressed Object State List". ** [0.9.933] The Popup menu item "Show Object History" now includes detailed App information in its display. ** [0.9.933] ASAP OIL and OEM now consume much less GDI/System memory on Win95/98. ** [0.9.933] The Popup menu item "Show Related Apps" now includes detailed App information in its display. ** [0.9.933] Report Classes now handle multi-line segmented I/O. ** [0.9.932] A "Refresh with Latest Data" toolbar button has been added to the Browse window. When this option is selected it forces retrieval of a fresh copy of data from the host. Note that ASAP client automatically fetches data from the host whenever the host is scheduled to receive new data. So forced refreshes, typically do not result in any change to the display. ** [0.9.932] APP entity DataNN attribute names were changed from "DataNN" to "MetricNN" to be consistent with their host counterparts. ** [0.9.931] New Client Session Health indicators were added to the PC-Host Status area of the Browse window. The following is an explanation of these indicators: - Green Host Icon => Host Session Up. - Gray Host Icon => Session Disabled. - Red Host with X => Host Session Down. - Red Host with ? => I/O Error last IO. ** [0.9.930] Allow keying directly into Browse window for educational purposes. To do this, select desired cell in grid type "=" sign, and then key the value. Once the "=" is typed, subsequent editing of cells is permitted without the need for additional equal signs. The purpose of this function is to help explain client behavior. ** [0.9.926] An OEM Toolbar Button has been added to the browse window. This is a two-state button that when pressed enables ASAP access to the Compaq Open Enterprise Management Gateway. ** [0.9.926] An OIL Toolbar Button has been added to the browse window. This is a two-state button that when pressed enables ASAP access to the Compaq Object Integration Layer. Note that the OIL and OEM buttons are mutually exclusive, when one is enabled the other is disabled. This is necessary so that when the OEM is enabled, the OIL can be used by the OEM. ** [0.9] An option "Show Removed Objects" has been added to the general tab of the ASAP properties window. When this option is checked, transient objects that have been removed by host applications continue to appear in ASAP. If "Show Removed Objects" is not selected then objects that have been removed do not appear in ASAP, OEM, or the OIL. ** [0.9] Help is now automatically displayed in the data grid portion of the ASAP Browse window whenever the mouse is moved over data in the grid. This can be turned off by unchecking the "Show Help in Grid" check box. ** [0.9] Single Click events in the OIL now cause both the OEM window and the ASAP browse window to update. Thus the OIL, OEM, and any clients that participate in click event processing are all in sync. ** [0.9] Floating point support has been added to ASAP. This affects the following functions: a) Graphs are now properly scaled when fractional numbers are graphed. b) The OEM gateway context fields now correctly displayed fractional values. c) Max State determination now properly determines the highest value without rounding values. ** [0.9] The Advanced SSG dialog box has a new field called "CI Startup Vol". This field lets you set your server ci startup subvolume. By setting this field, the ci will obey the configuration file in this subvolume, if any; otherwise the config file on $system.system is used. This dialog is accessed by clicking the "Advanced" button on the SSG tab of the ASAP Properties window. ** [0.9] The Advanced SSG dialog box has a new check box "Clear Data Cache on OK". When this is checked, ASAP hierarchial cache is automatically cleared when the OK button is clicked. ** [0.9] ASAP now uses a new algorithm to determine the states of objects. The new algorithm allows combinations of ASAP utilization thresholds and host defined objectives to determine the reported state of an object. Additionally, ASAP now emits the full range of state values including: Exists, Up, Low, Medium, High, Warning, Critical, Down, and Change. Previously only Exists ... Critical were supported. ** [0.9] The Attribute Tab of the ASAP Properties Window has been enhanced. The following new State Determination options are provided: a) "Use Thresholds" uses ASAP utilization thresholds to determine the performance state of an object. b) "Use Value Graph Value" uses the value directly as if it were a state. The attribute value is also graphed. c) "Use State Graph Value" uses the host determined associated state variable. The attribute value is graphed. d) "Use State Graph State" uses the host determined associated state variable. The state variable is graphed. ** [0.9] An "Annotate Grid with States" check box has been added to the General Tab of the Properties Window. Selecting this option causes ASAP to annotate the data grid with state icons. This is an important new option because it highlights key alert values in the grid portion of the ASAP Browse Window. ** [0.9] A new "States" function displays an explanation of ASAP state icons, colors, and their meaning. The States function is accessed from Browse Window View and Grid Popup menus. ** [0.8] A new "Show Related Apps" function provides context sensitive reports on applications running in the selected cpu. This function is accessed from Browse and Graph Window context sensitive Popup Menus. ** [0.8] The Graph Tab of the Properties Window has the following enhancements: a) "Label Names Compressed" check box has been added. This option controls whether names appear compressed, such as \Chicago...$Atm, or appear in long form: \Chicago\App\Credit\Main\$Atm. b) A "High Contrast check" box has been added. This option controls the contrast of the graph background. ** [0.8] A "Report on Objects in Related Subdomain" check box was added to the OEM and OIL Tabs of the ASAP Properties window. This option controls how objects are displayed when objects are selected in the OEM or OIL. ** [0.3] ASAP Graph colors are synchronized to ASAP Utilization Threshold colors. Thus when a graph element exceeds a utilization threshold, the color of graph elements for that object will match the max utilization threshold color. This causes the color of objects in ASAP, OEM, and OIL to all be synchronized indicating the relative utilization/state of each object. Two check boxes on the Graph Tab of the ASAP Properties Sheet control this option. a) "Graph-Color-Sync" enables color synchronization. The default is enabled. b) "Graph-Color-Toggle" enables alternating colors and avoids repeating sequences of the same color. When this option is enabled repeating graph colors will alternate between a light and dark shade of the same color. This option is useful for people who have trouble will spatial orientation when the same color repeats over and over. *** [0.1.9] ASAP is Year 2000 compliant. Note that all ASAP product versions work with all versions of the Tandem NonStop Kernel that are C30.08 and higher. *** [0.1.9] A Download wizard was been added to ASAP to simplify analysis from different dates and times. The Download wizard allows downloading of ASAP statistics for selected dates, times, and intervals. The Log tab of the Download wizard can be used to monitor download progress. Click the Camera toolbar button to access the Download wizard. *** [0.1.9] A Command wizard was added to ASAP. Using the Command wizard, you can select various ASAP reports about nodes in your network using a drop-down combo box. Click the Binocular toolbar button to access the Command wizard. *** [0.1.9] The Browse window now provides both Sort and Grid views. Toggle the Grid and Sort views by selecting the SORT-GRID VIEW menu item under the View menu of the Browse window; Or, by clicking the ListView toolbar button. You can also toggle the view by clicking the word "Grid" or "Sort" in the upper-right corner of the data area in the Browse window. In "Grid" View, you can use popup menus to display context-sensitive reports on selected objects. In "Sort" View, you can sort nodes, entities, objects, or their property values by clicking a column heading for a given property. Problems Corrected History: ** [0.9.960] Previously, the OIL would not propagate object states for certain versions of Windows ComCtl32.DLL when the "Show State Icons Only" check box was selected. This problem has been fixed. ** [0.9.960] Previously, when the TIME attribute of an object was graphed, this enabled time early/late checking, but if the check was OK, the state of the time was set to the EXISTS state. Now when the TIME attribute of any entity is OK the state of the time is set to the UP state. ** [0.9.960] Previously, when graphed values were greater than 32767, the state of the value was sometimes not always properly determined. This problem has been corrected. ** [0.9.941] Previously, when the host experienced excessive queuing delays, network and disk i/o did not have ample time to settle, before the ASAP Client started a new host retrieval sample. Sample Delay options added to the SSG TAB of the ASAP Properties window now allow you to control ASAP Client behavior for host systems experiencing excessive host queing. ** [0.9.940] Previously, the TCP/IP TelNet transport layer would alter the data stream in certain cases where line terminations were split across I/O buffers.
